Summary	Catalyzes the formation of ganglioside GM3 (alpha-N-acetylneuraminyl-2,3-beta-D-galactosyl-1, 4-beta-D-glucosylceramide), which is a precursor for most of the complex ganglioside species.[UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot Function]
