Background	TIP47 has been described as cargo protein involved in the trafficking of the mannose-6-phosphate receptor between endosomes and the Golgi complex (cf. Diaz & Pfeffer; for alternative discussions of its role see e.g. Bulankina). The protein has been localized in milk fat globule membranes of human and bovine origin. It has been described also as a placental protein. Increased amounts are secreted into circulation of cervix carcinoma patients. After radical surgery TIP47 serum levels are decreased (cf. Than et al.). The protein probably is significant as an oncodevelopmental marker. TIP47 shows about 40% sequence homology to adipophilin.
