Background | SNAI1, also known as Snail homolog 1, is involved in the epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT), formation and maintenance of embryonic mesoderm, growth arrest, survival and cell migration. This protein binds to 3 E-boxes of the E-cadherin gene promoter and represses its transcription. Both SNAI1 and SLUG belong to the snail C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family. SLUG is a transcriptional repressor, involved in the generation and migration of neural crest cells. SNAI1 is expressed in mesenchymal, epithelial cell lines and highest expression in kidney. |
