Summary | T-lymphocyte activation antigen CD86 (B7-2) is a type I membrane protein that belongs to the B7 family. CD86 is highly expressed on activated antigen presenting cells. CD86 plays an essential role for T-lymphocyte proliferation and interleukin-2 production through binding CD28 or CTLA-4. It is also involved in the early events of T-cell activation and costimulation of naive T-cells, such as deciding between immunity and anergy that is made by T-cells within 24 hours after activation. Additionally, the CD86 participates innate immune responses by activating NF-κB-signaling pathway in macrophages. CD86 thus is predicted to be a promising candidate for immune therapy. |
