Background | Salusins are expressed and synthesized ubiquitously within human, rat, and mouse tissues, including the vasculature, central nervous system, and kidneys. They are present in human plasma and urine, indicating their possible role as peptide hormones in humans. Salusin-α and Salusin-β are related peptides produced from prosalusin. Salusins may be potent hypotensive peptides. Particularly, Salusin-α and Salusin-β may be endocrine and/or paracrine factors able to increase intracellular calcium concentrations and induce cell mitogenesis. This antibody was generated by immunization of rabbits with Salusin-α coupled to a carrier protein. |
