Specificity	The antibody binds to an epitope of the C-terminal part of RAP, a sequence common to the Human VLDL receptor superfamily (glycoprotein 330 and LRP), the Chicken oocyte receptor for VLDL and Vitellogenin (LR8), and Glycoprotein 330/megalin from Rat. No reaction with LDL receptor. The antibody interferes with binding of VLDL and Vitellogenin Receptor. Binding is Ca2+-dependent with LR8.

Background	Low density lipoprotein receptor-related protein-associated protein 1 (RAP) interacts with LRP1/alpha-2-macroglobulin receptor and glycoprotein 330. It is present on the cell surface forming a complex with the alpha 2 macroglobulin receptor heavy and light chains. Binds LRP1B; binding is followed by internalization and degradation. In complex with the alpha 2 MR or gp330, it may have some role in the pathogenesis of membrane glomerular nephritis.
