Specificity	Ten to forty percent of the patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) develop cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections. An indicator of active CMV i nfection is needed to facilitate the diagnosis of CMV disease in patients with AIDS or HIV in fection.
